All About Pueblo Chiles
Seed, Sprout, Spice!
Captivating young readers with vibrant images and a rhyming prose, this children’s book accurately shares the rich details of Pueblo Chiles. The pages accurately follow the process of planting, growing, and harvesting Pueblo Chiles and highlight the cultural significance of this Colorado proud vegetable.
This book was selected at the 2024 the Literacy Project, a program of Colorado Agriculture in the Classroom. This is a FREE program for preK-5th grade classes featuring Colorado food, fiber, or fuel.
All participating classes received a classroom kit. The kit included; Seed, Sprout, Spice! book; frozen Pueblo Chiles, seeds and planting supplies; and corresponding educational resources. The project activities meet academic standards for reading, writing, science, art, social studies, comprehensive health, and math. Kids and teachers learned about Pueblo, and chile farming in an engaging, positive, and memorable way!
23,309 students in 1130 classes participated in the spring of 2024. This is a 131% increase in participation from the previous years. People love Pueblo Chiles! This book was distributed to urban, suburban, and rural schools in 47 counties in Colorado.
